The American Dream is the faith held by many in the United States of America that through hard work and determination one can achieve a better life for oneself, usually through the earning of money. These were values held by many early European settlers, and have been passed on to the newer generations. Currently, the American Dream has been criticised for its emphasis on material possessions as a way of finding happiness. Some consider the American dream to be having two children and living in a perfect house with financial security.
